Skin cancer affects nearly 60 % of Australian before the Age of 70. Early detection and treatment can minimise harm. At Hume Medical Centre - Sunshine we do screen for skin cancers.
Skin cancers can be mainly classified into two categories either Melanoma or non melanoma skin cancers. Non melanoma skin cancers are the common ones. They are Basal Cell Cancers, Squamous Cell Cancers and Aktinic keratosis (pre cancers). Melanoma can spread to other organs if not treated early.
We use microderm digital dermosope to screen for skin cancer. This can magnify and store digital images which can be compared at a later stage. However, the doctors clinical diagnosis is crucial in detecting skin cancers.
There are several ways of treating skin cancers depending on their type and complexity. Some of them can be treated with dry ice or cryotherapy. Majority of them need excision biopsy to confirm diagnosis and complete treatment. Larger and complex lesions will be referred to specialist care.
Currently we are bulk billing as an introductory offer. Usually mole scan will have an out of pocket cost.
